Change for the Better

Change is scary! It is not easy to push yourself to change, in fact some people will argue that change isn’t possible. If that were the case, I don’t think I could be a therapist, because let me tell you I bear witness to positive change each and every single day. Clients will come to me and say ‘Jamie it is so hard to change, I just don’t know how’, often times they look to me for a prescriptive way to change things in their life. Well newsflash, my magic wand is broken, my genie in the lamp is not granting wishes today! However, the good news is that YOU have the ability to change, you have your own wand that works perfectly and the genie in your lamp may very well grant you some wishes. We have to be self-motivated and sometimes that requires the support of professional. Here are a few tips to help you see change for the better in your life!

  1. Set aside 30 mins every day devoted to focusing on the change.

  2. Make a list of 3-5 things that can help you accomplish change (e.g. 1. less time on social media, more time practicing my sport, 2. eating 1 healthy item)

  3. Surround yourself by others who will promote your change! -aka loose the lousy friends who don’t encourage you

  4. Celebrate the small successes!

Change is possible and once you start to see results you will feel even better!
